Marcello Barbieri
(1940-)
Marcello Barbieri is a theoretical biologist who was founding editor of the journal
Biosemiotics and the idea that all biology is based on "codes" that are more general versions of the genetic code of molecular biology. He is president of the International Society of Code Biology.
Barbieri calls Code Biology a "New Science of Life," based on the idea that there are many organic codes in Nature in addition to the genetic code, and that the major events of macroevolution were associated with the origin of new organic codes.
